Dawn rising, mist on the water. The scent of dubbined boots, dewy moss and mountain air. What’s it to be? An energetic climb to the summit or a gentle paddle across the silent surface? Welcome to Another Place, The Lake…
With long light days, wildflower landscapes and bright green energy, spring is the time to squeeze every last drop out of life outdoors – and try something new.
This month we’re introducing you to some land&water friends and hosts in very special ‘leaping off’ locations across the UK. All on the threshold of land and water, they’re inspiring, imaginatively designed bases from which to venture out.
First up is Another Place, The Lake, set in 18 acres of private lakeshore on Ullswater in the Lake District National Park.
Golden days hiking in the fells and paddleboarding across the lake have poured ample inspiration into land&water’s philosophy, lifestyle and culture since the very beginning. So having land&water products in all the hotel's rooms and public spaces feels like it's come full circle.

With its own private jetty for easy access to swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding on Ullswater, the contemporary 47-bedroom hotel is inspired by its stunning location in ‘England’s biggest natural playground’ (Financial Times). In 2021, the hotel was featured on the BBC’s Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr, with series winner Lynsey Ford winning the contract to redesign a two-bedroom cottage in the hotel grounds.
Another Place has built a strong following around its open water swimming experiences – led by English Channel solo swimmer and first UK Male Ice Mile swimmer, Colin Hill – which include guided cross-lake swims, wild swimming and cliff jumping from Kailpot Crag, full moon night swims and a new hike and wild swim adventure to one of the Lake District’s highest water bodies, Angle Tarn (470m).

The hotel is also within easy reach for hiking some of the Lake District’s highlights like the Helvellyn range and exhilarating Striding Edge, Gowbarrow Fell, Aira Force waterfall and the 20-mile Ullswater Way.
New for 2022 are the Outside spaces and accommodation – including a large contemporary treehouse with floor-to-ceiling views of the lake, six handcrafted oak shepherd huts with stargazing roofs over freestanding double beds, and a Victorian-style glasshouse offering everything from wood-fired feasts to garden yoga sessions.
Whether you choose to glide along the lake’s glassy surface on a sunset kayaking trip, plunge into its cool embrace on a stargazing swim, or just admire its twilight hues with a glass of something cold, Another Place gives many reasons to run for the hills this spring.
