Sink into a freestanding spa bath, watch ripples drift across the surface of the lake and listen for birds in the tree canopy above... Welcome to The Tawny, where the threshold between land and water is dreamily blurred.
This month we’re introducing you to some land&water friends and hosts in very special ‘leaping off’ locations across the UK. All on the threshold of land and water, they’re inspiring, imaginatively designed bases from which to venture out.
Set in 70 acres of winding Staffordshire gardens, serene lakes and untouched woodlands, The Tawny is a ‘deconstructed hotel’ like no other.
Taking the highlights of a classic luxury hotel experience – a fabulous restaurant, room service, a relaxing spa and heated outdoor pool – and combining them with a series of secluded boltholes dotted around rolling grounds, The Tawny puts a unique spin on staycations.
So we’re delighted that land&water products grace the atmospheric and beautifully designed boathouses, wildwood huts, treehouses and retreats of this waterside and woodland sanctuary.
Named after the owners heard the hoot of an owl (they have a resident population of nine) while working late on site one evening, The Tawny feels rooted in nature. Look closely, and you might just spot the rabbits, badgers and occasional deer that call the estate’s overgrown follies and mature trees home. Or take a picnic (a basket packed with local provisions is available on request) down to the grassy banks of one of the hotel’s five lakes to see geese, tufted ducks and moorhens at play.
Even the thoughtful steel supports that pin The Tawny’s structures to the ground prevent root damage and tread lightly on the sublime environment that surrounds them. It’s this eco-minded ethos that chimes so effortlessly with land&water’s own sustainable approach.
Interiors are cosy, uplifting and contemporary, with a calming Scandi slant. The Tawny’s Shepherd Huts, cedar-clad Cabins and Treehouses are hidden amongst foliage, while the lakeside Boathouses and loftier Lookout room boast panoramic front-aspect views across the water. King-sized beds, en-suite showers, fluffy bathrobes and slippers come as standard.
Whether it’s a freestanding tub in a floor-to-ceiling window or an outdoor artisan tin bath on private decking, opportunities to soak and soothe using complimentary land&water products, lie back and relax are plentiful in this peaceful corner of the world.
