TAKE ME TO: THREE MILE BEACH

“As you approach along the narrow, twisting lane, you’ll inhale salt air, sea grasses and sea-pinks swaying alongside you in the breeze – and then you’ll spot streaks of turquoise beyond the dunes. This is Three Mile Beach…” Forbes

Dune lounging. Whitewater wave hopping. Sunset hot tub soaking. Discover an idyllic spot in the wilds of west Cornwall, where doing nothing and everything exists together in easy harmony.

This month, we’re introducing you to some land&water friends and hosts in very special ‘leaping off’ locations across the UK. All on the threshold of land and water, they’re inspiring, imaginatively designed bases from which to venture out.

The next stop on our virtual tour is Three Mile Beach: a cluster of 15 bohemian-luxe beach houses in Gwithian Towans, west Cornwall. A glorious stretch of golden sand framed by soft dunes and watched over by the iconic Godrevy Lighthouse, Gwithian is loved by surfers – and the local colony of seals who bob about in the shallows.

Three Mile Beach

Created by travel company founder Craig Burkinshaw and his partner, Joanne Le Bon, to evoke the carefree nostalgia of seaside holidays, Three Mile Beach feels steeped in windswept wanderlust.

In this idyllic spot, it’s all in the balance. Untamed coastline, home comforts. Cold waves, warm firesides. The same concept threads through the heart of land&water. Balancing citrus-fresh skin and a feeling of natural calm, we blend two different scent worlds; one exhilarating and airy, the other restoring and serene. So our shoreline-inspired, spirit-lifting bath & body products feel right at home in these beach houses' beautifully designed bathrooms. In fact, many of our favourite natural ingredients – like samphire-derived hydrosalinol and sea buckthorn – could’ve been foraged in the surrounding landscape.

Three Mile Beach

Named after pop songs and painted in cheerful hues, Three Mile Beach’s light-flooded beach houses are bright and airy. Inside, white-washed walls are enlivened with pops of turquoise, flashes of pink and eclectic finds from far-flung adventures – West African woven baskets, Berber rugs, prized surfboards and vintage tin signs.

The sofas are squishy, the beds luxurious and the burnished-silver freestanding baths ideal for a post-surf soak. Outside, on the generous private decking, there’s a barbeque grill and barrel sauna.

So laid back it’s on a par with the horizon, the atmosphere is one of effortless relaxation. Dogs are welcome, kids can run free, formalities (and shoes) are left at the door and guests drift off to the sound of the sea.

And yet opportunities for elemental invigoration abound. Guests can slip into a free wetsuit and skip three minutes across the sand to the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean, sign up for a surfing lesson or stretch skywards in beach yoga. If a slower pace is preferred, strolls along the famous South West Coast Path await. And then there are the technicolour sunsets that Gwithian is known for – best enjoyed from your sunken cedar hot tub with a cocktail in hand.
